Heavy concrete / Heavyweight concrete

The term heavy concrete refers to the specific weight that is over 2.6 kg/dm³ (for comparison: normal concrete ≈ 2.4 kg/dm³, lightweight concrete < 2 kg/dm³). Aggregates for heavy concrete are e.g. magnetite, barite, red hematite, etc. Heavy concrete is used for the production of counterweights (crane) and bridge abutments, for the installation of safes, for sound insulation measures, as shielding against radiation.
