Joosten method

The production of excavations (e.g. manholes, galleries, pits, etc.) in non-cohesive soils is dangerous due to the risk of slipping earth. A possible safeguard is the two-phase Joosten method: The surrounding earth is injected with glass first and then with a saline solution (calcium chloride). When the two substances come into contact they react and cure immediately (calcium silicate gel) thus solidifying the soil.
