Bond / Adhesive joint

Bonding is a possibility to join two or more parts of the same material or of different materials. The solidness of an adhesive joint depends on the forces within the adhesive as well as the adhesion forces between the adhesive and the parts being joined; the forces can be increased by an appropriate surface preparation (degreasing, roughening, etc.) of the adherends. The strength test can be either destructive (tensile, shear, peel tests, etc.) or non-destructive (x-ray, ultrasound, etc.). Destructive tests may show the following results: adhesive failure - the adhesive breaks off one adherend, cohesive failure - the adhesive itself breaks up, mixed failure - partly the adhesive breaks up, partly the adhesive breaks off the adherends of the parts being joined.
