Aerated concrete / AAC autoclaved aerated concrete

Formerly: Porous concrete, cellular concrete, gas concrete The basic ingredients for the production of aerated concrete are silica sand, water, and binder (cement and/or lime) as well as a small quantity of aluminium as foaming agent for the air pore formation. The admixture of other aggregates resp. additions is based on the recipe. The mixture is poured into moulds where it reacts to form aerated concrete blocks. Afterwards the aerated concrete undergoes a steam-curing process (autoclave) giving it its strength and suitability as mineral construction material. With an air pore content of up to about 80 %, the aerated concrete is not only very light but also has a high thermal insulation value.
