Celsius (°C)

The transition points of water from liquid to solid (freezing point) and from liquid to gaseous (boiling point) are the base values of the Celsius scale. Anders Celsius (eponym) fixed the freezing point at 0 °C and the boiling point at 100 °C and divided the scale into 100 equal units linearly continuing below resp. above the base values. Temperatures below 0 °C are marked with a minus (e.g. -14 °C) and termed sub-zero temperatures as well.
